How to destress before the job interview

It is normal to feel tensed and stressed before an important job interview. Once you realize that your body is reacting negatively to your emotions, you must find a quick way to deal with the effects of stress.

Through the use of mind and body techniques, manage your stress levels in ways that will help you be more relaxed and effective during your interview.

This is what you can do:

Try visualisation

Before the interview, find a quiet place, close your eyes and visualize attending the interview in a relaxed and confident state, visualise your triumph.  At the and imagine yourself leaving the interview with a smile on your face.

While you do need to take practical steps to prepare yourself for the interview, adding positive visualization techniques can help diffuse your stress levels.

Try stretching

Use a few simple stretches to help you relax before the interview.

Sit and stretch your arms out in front of you, turn the back of your hands toward you and interweave your fingers, raise your arms up over your head and stretch upward to release the tension in your shoulders, arms and hands. Hold for 5 seconds and then release.

Next, to relax tense neck and shoulder muscles drop your chin toward your chest and inhale after tilt your neck to the left, and exhale.  Keep your chin down and bring your neck back to an upright position while inhaling. Slowly tilt your neck to the right and exhale deeply while holding the neck at an angle. Repeat few times on each side.

Practice positive affirmations

Think about what worries you the most about the job interview and whatever your fears happen to be, write positive statements, to counteract them.

Remember and repeat those affirmations whenever you’re feeling under stress. Positive thinking will increase your chances of success.
