Stress can make you fat – this is what you can do!

When you are under stress, healthy behaviours like eating properly and exercising regularly can easily be forgotten.  But luckily there are few ways which can help you to avoid such vicious cycle of stress and weight gain and break it once and for all!

This is what you can do to stay slim:

  • Make exercise a priority.

There should be no excuse for not exercising you must make it your priority.  Physical movement is a critical component of stress reduction and weight management too. It can help you address both issues simultaneously, and get additional benefits for your health too!

Whether you go for a walk first thing in the morning or during your lunch break or hit the gym after work or before work, you have to incorporate regular exercise into your daily routine if you want to stay slim.

  • Make healthier food choices.

One study has shown that eating healthier comfort foods, such as popcorn, provides same boost to a negative mood as “unhealthy comfort” foods.  So, you must make an effort to stock your pantry with these types of foods, which will make it easier for you to grab a healthier option when the need arrives.

  • Practice mindful eating

Mindful eating means that you should focus on what you are eating without any distractions.

Such approach to a meal may help you to lower stress, promote weight loss, and successfully prevent weight gain. So next time you eat a meal, try enjoying it without the interruption from your phone or the TV.

  • Drink more water.

It is very easy to confuse thirst for hunger specially in the times of high stress.  But confusing these two cravings can lead you to eat more calories than you need, encouraging weight gain. So, in case that it is only been a couple of hours since you’ve eaten and you still feel hungry, try drinking some water first.

  • Incorporate regular stress-relief techniques into your life.

Whether you enjoy yoga or meditation or climbing mountains, try doing it regularly because doing so can reduce your stress and your cortisol levels, which in turn can help you to manage your weight.
