It is important to know how to cope and calm ourselves whenever we are under high levels of stress, and why experiment or search for something new when there are some techniques that are already proven to work!

These strategies are some of them, so next time when you are too stressed, just pick one and try it!

  1. Separate yourself from your stressor – separating yourself from the source of your stress even for a few minutes can calm you down.

For example, if your work is stressing you out because you have too much to do, then take a short break from it, go for a brief walk, prepare a cup of tea, you can even go to the bathroom, but it works wonders if you stop, pause, and come back to it with increased energy and optimism.

Or if your friends, colleagues or even family members are those who are stressing you out, because of things they are doing or saying, take a few minutes or even more away from them, without feeling guilty because if it preserves your health it is OK.

  1. Focus on your breathing – focus on your breathing for a few minutes, because it has been proven that a few slow deep breaths can reduce your stress level by decreasing blood pressure, heart rate and muscle tension.Deep breathing can help you to clear your mind.  All you need to do is to inhale slowly through your nose, try to sense your breath going down in your belly, hold your breath for a few seconds before exhaling it and then slowly exhale through your mouth. Imagine all the negative energy and tension going away each time you exhale, and with each breath you take you will begin to feel your body relaxing more and more.
  1. Think about the stressful situation – take time to think why it is something stressing you, and how you can resolve the problem. And it works even better if you write it down.

It might even get interesting if during the process you realise that there is more than one option to solve the problem, which will give you peace of mind and renew your enthusiasm.
